Company Secretary, Super Group
Head of Client Services
I’ve worked in the sustainability sector for 10 years and been with Greenstone since 2012. Prior to my current role, I spent time at the Environment Agency and working for the Carbon Trust and Ricardo consulting public and private sector organisations on developing their environmental policies and delivering sustainability programmes.
As Head of Client Services at Greenstone, I’m responsible for overall client delivery and managing the consultants in the Client Services Team that help breathe life into our clients’ data. I also manage the Greenstone Enterprise product to make sure it evolves with the non-financial reporting landscape to meet our clients’ needs today and in the future.
I grew up in Singapore so love to travel. I’m a bit of a hobby fiend actually so when I’m not baking for the office, I’m either at life-drawing class, reading, organising treasure hunts or at some kind of music concert.
I’ve been working at Greenstone for a year now in the software development team. Previously I worked for ten years at one of the UK’s largest social media websites before deciding it was time for a new challenge. At Greenstone I enjoy working with a small, responsive team on our ever-evolving software.
I live out in the Kent countryside, dabble with a bit of DJing and spend far too much time adding to the thousands of vinyl records that clutter up my house.
As a Consultant I am responsible for working with organisations, helping them understand their reporting requirements and ensuring they are making the most out of our software and services. I am often out speaking with and meeting new clients and discovering where they are on their sustainability journey and where they want to get to.
I enjoy working with clients that are embedding sustainability and innovation throughout all of their activities and transforming the way they do business and interact with the environment and society around them.
Outside of work, I am a board member of Doing Social, a social enterprise that aims to promote an inclusive society as well as a volunteer and member of various network organisations promoting sustainability and responsible business. I’m half Greek half Spanish so I’m often chasing the sun and looking for the next adventure. If I’m not exploring then I’m probably trying to create something.
Matthew de Villiers
Chief Executive Officer
As CEO of Greenstone my role is to ensure we have the right team and solutions in place to keep our clients happy and stay ahead of their evolving requirements in the constantly changing world of measuring, managing and reporting non-financial information.
Fortunately I’ve had an eclectic past working with a variety of organisations in strategy, innovation, technology, marketing and operations in both commercial and NGO sectors, across multiple geographies. The blend of client management, innovation, subject matter expertise and software development at Greenstone draws from all of those experiences in a unique way and makes every day an interesting one.
Away from work, my weekends are taken up watching school sport and pursuing impractical endurance cycling and climbing ambitions. I also keep active in the third sector through SOS Children’s Villages UK where I’m a Trustee and OnPurpose where I help mentor the next generation of social enterprise leaders.
Before I joined Greenstone, I worked in renewable energy consultancy; initially for a UK-based project developer and more recently for an NGO on community energy projects in Nicaragua and Kenya. Seeing the huge potential impact that businesses have to drive sustainability, I was very interested to move into corporate sustainability/CSR. Greenstone provides the perfect opportunity to work with sector leading clients, to help them understand and report their sustainability performance both internally and to a wider public audience.
As a Consultant in the Client Services Team my role is focussed on assisting a range of clients in the use of our software and with the analysis of their sustainability data. I enjoy the variety of the role, with a good balance of detailed technical and client facing activities, testing my skills in spreadsheets, communication and relationship building in equal measure.
Outside of work I enjoy exploring new places and cultures, in particular the food, drink and music (but mostly the food!). I love being active, which normally involves getting injured on a rugby pitch, walking/cycling uncomfortable distances, or sticking to something a lot safer like table tennis.
Head of SupplierPortal
I arrived at Greenstone at the start of 2011, having completed an MSc in Carbon Management, followed by a period at an ethical carbon offset provider. My role as a consultant in the client services team brings me in daily contact with both existing and potential clients. Building relationships with new clients from the beginning is both enjoyable and rewarding for both parties, and more rapidly captures the huge benefits of our software.
I have developed my experience in delivering projects and embedding new processes across a large number of public and private sector organisations. My particular focus is on our close affiliation with the legal sector and managing SupplierPortal, our responsible sourcing solution.
I love to get over to the West Coast of Ireland, when I can, to hit a golf ball or two and catch up on my reading (and the odd Guinness!). I play football and cricket; indeed, enjoy playing or following all sports. When not active, I like to pursue my interest in wine and improving my cooking.
Co-founder Director (non-executive)
As a founding Director, I have enjoyed seeing Greenstone grow from an idea born out of a few client requests for carbon emissions information to a broad non-financial enterprise solution used by clients across the world.
I’m also a Founder and COO of Qmee and a Non Executive Director of Zenith. Qmee is a free browser app that provides users with additional search results and cash rewards - a disruptive technology that rewards users for the value they create through their search activity. Zenith is the leading independent vehicle solutions provider in the UK and winner of leasing company of the year 2012 and 2013. Prior to Qmee and Zenith I founded and grew Provecta car leasing until its acquisition by Zenith and spent 10 years in the City, largely within the Swire Group.
My work with Greenstone started in late 2014 following a two year period with a sustainability and CSR consultancy in Bristol. This previous position had a strong focus on developing and delivering sustainability-focused communications projects, including non-financial reports, for a variety of organisations.
I moved on from my previous role with the aim of getting more involved with the data behind reporting; something Greenstone certainly allows me to do. As a Senior Consultant on the Client Services Team it is rewarding to be able to build strong relationships with clients through the delivery of diverse projects on both our Enterprise and SupplierPortal solutions.
As I am still a bit of a new-comer to London life a lot of my spare time is spent exploring (or getting lost) in this great city. I am also a keen sports fan and try to stay relatively fit, although most of the sport I do play has become rather uncompetitive!
I have been working as a web developer at Greenstone for 3 years now. As part of Greenstone’s in-house development team, I am involved in the ongoing development and maintenance of our enterprise-level software. This often involves developing tailored reports for our clients to ensure they are getting true value out of their data. I also work with the Client Services team on the design and development of new solutions and modules.
I recently became a dad for the first time, which means the surfboarding and base jumping that I would have pretended to do, have been pushed aside for sleeping and beard growing. Occasionally I still get to read or get out and about, but frankly I cannot remember life before my daughter.
Head of Development
I'm Head of Software Development, responsible for ensuring that we are constantly blending the latest innovations in web-enabled software with the evolving requirements of our clients and the non-financial reporting space. With quarterly releases across two solution platforms the Dev team is kept busy, but it’s rewarding work when we see our solutions being used across the globe.
I joined Greenstone 4 years ago bringing 20+ years of IT experience with me. I have designed and developed software for UK military and defence companies, aerospace and even the odd nuclear power station.
When away from the screen my time is spent balancing time with the family and getting away for the odd bit of climbing, cycling or fishing.
I joined Greenstone after a year of exploring the world; seeing its rainforests and oceans which every day I fight to protect in my work as a Sustainability consultant. I work with a diverse range of companies to address their environmental impacts and use the Greenstone software to provide beneficial analysis that can lead to positive change, which is something I find very rewarding. I have a masters in Environmental Governance and a background in Sustainability in the property sector.
I’m passionate about environmental stewardship and am involved with a number of climate change activist groups. I’m a firm believer that if we all made small changes on a mass scale we could make a huge positive impact in the world we’re living in today. Other than being a modern day super hero – I love dogs, cakes and going to the gym.
Senior Software Developer
I'm a Senior Software Developer responsible for delivering Greenstone’s high quality software solutions, ensuring our clients get maximum value from their software and have access to the latest technology. Great attention to detail and a constant effort to explore the opportunities offered by the constantly evolving technological environment are of paramount importance in my role.
I have always being interested in the non-financial reporting sector, and the use of software to enable organisations to report more efficiently. With a large array of enterprise level projects that I have delivered throughout my career, I bring valuable additional know-how to Greenstone and the software development team.
During my spare time I am interested in robotics and gaming development.
As the marketing manager at Greenstone my role is to market Greenstone to the outside world which, with a great team of specialists and fantastic software to offer, is a real pleasure. Before Greenstone, I spent 5 years working for a global environmental consultancy; 18 months of which was spent in the US.
My role is pretty varied; one minute I am working with the team to produce fresh and interesting content for the website, or organising our latest event, the next I am meeting with a like-minded company to explore exciting ways in which we can work together. I also manage our partner programme and work with clients to roll-out SupplierPortal across their supplier networks to get a better handle on their responsible sourcing data.
When I am not in the office, you’ll find me swimming in one of the great outdoor lidos in London, cooking for or eating with friends and family (I’m a real foodie!) or dancing away at a music festival or gig.
Prof Kevin Anderson
I am Professor of Energy and Climate Change in the School of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester and have been a non-executive Director at Greenstone since 2007.
I was previously Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and now lead Tyndall Manchester’s Energy and Climate Change programme. I remain research active with recent publications in Royal Society and Nature journals and I engage widely across all tiers of government; from reporting on shale gas and aviation related emissions to the EU Parliament to advising the Prime Minister’s office on Carbon Trading. I previously contributed analysis underpinning the UK’s Climate Change Act and the development of national carbon budgets.
I have a decade’s industrial experience, principally in the petrochemical industry. I sit as commissioner on the Welsh Government’s climate change commission and am a director of Greenstone Carbon Management - a London-based company providing emission-related advice to private and public sector organisations. I am a chartered engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
I joined Greenstone in 2007 as Chairman, at a time when we were just an idea proposed by our Founding Directors. As was to be expected, the development of the initial blank piece of paper into the thriving broadly based company that is Greenstone today, has kept the whole team open-minded and nimble. Ours is a market that has changed and developed, as have we, into a broader and wider-based discipline embracing numerous aspects of CSR reporting.
For the twenty or so years before joining Greenstone I had led a team who created a new private bank and I had the satisfaction of seeing “our baby” prosper and grow exponentially. I learned the importance of keeping the clients, team and shareholders on the same journey. At Greenstone, we depend on the knowledge, skill and creativity of our team, top to bottom, and therefore the working environment is communicative and collaborative. It is a pleasure working with this team.
Despite a portfolio of non-executive roles and a few charitable activities, I have plenty of time available to lose golf balls and spend time with our extended family – and friends.
Product Development Manager
I started my working life as an industrial chemist in South Africa working in a number of manufacturing facilities in quality control and research. In 1990, with my partner, I moved to the UK and found work with ICI paints in the research laboratories, and then later into IT as a business analyst mainly in the testing and training of bespoke software packages.
A few years on, I joined CoreRatings which was a corporate responsibility rating agency providing independent investment analysis of corporate responsibility risks. I then joined URS Corporation as a corporate responsibility consultant where some of the projects I was involved in included the calculation of the clients’ carbon emissions.
By happy coincidence my role at Greenstone includes science, IT business analysis and corporate responsibility. My responsibilities include ensuring that all specifications for the Greenstone software are accurate, that all new releases are tested and robust, whilst looking after a number of clients including Fujitsu who were our first client.
Away from Greenstone I enjoy travelling, although the desire to visit family in South Africa rather limits the holiday left for other travel, sport (watching rather than participating), gardening and walking in the beautiful Surrey countryside.
In September 2015, I joined the board of Greenstone as Finance Director, having previously spent twenty five years in the commodities and financial services sectors, operating across a wide spectrum of businesses in general management and financial roles.
I have been fortunate to travel extensively, previously living in Holland and Switzerland and have held a variety of roles from Managing Director of a global coffee business to more recently operating as a Finance Director of a UK retail business.
I enjoy the financial and operational challenges of working in an innovative and fast-moving business like Greenstone and think that our team of client-focused consultants really sets us apart.
Outside of work I am an avid consumer of most sports and have to suffer the pain of watching West Ham most weekends. I like to get away to our ‘bolt hole’ in Norfolk where I spend lots of time with family and walking our dog on glorious empty beaches. I also act as charity Treasurer and Trustee for a registered branch of the Samaritans.
Prof Paul Valdes
I am a non-executive Director of Greenstone where I provide macro environmental and climate change advice. I am a Professor of Physical Geography at the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol and also lead The Bristol Research Initiative for the Dynamic Global Environment (BRIDGE). .
My work at Bristol is focused on developing a quantitative understanding of the processes that cause natural Earth system change enabling us to better identify future, human-made change.
I also work on a range of future climate change issues such as the possible climate effects of Amazonian deforestation. My research team in BRIDGE looks at the complex interactions between all the Earth's components as well as the influence of human activity on global change. Such work provides information to bodies such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and ultimately feeds into the UK government's policy. I also serve on the management panel for several national and international climate change research programs.
My role at Greenstone gives me useful insights into the responses and challenges facing commercial organisations and provides a balance to my academic world.
I am a non-executive Director of Greenstone. As I have spent nearly 20 years in the financial industry, I enjoy watching Greenstone grow from strength to strength as a business.
I am currently a private investor and risk consultant but prior to this, I did a 14 year stint at Goldman Sachs, where I served on the Firmwide Technology Committee and several Risk Committees and reached the level of Managing Director. I also worked as a Managing Director for three years at Lehman Brothers and have run several global trading businesses, principally focused on equity and debt derivatives.
During my career, I have been lucky enough to live all over the world; including London, New York and Tokyo and still love to travel when I can.
